Anderson for US Senate: RUSS FEINGOLD SHARES OBAMA’S DISDAIN FOR WHISTLEBLOWERS
Madison, WI – Former Democratic U.S. Senator Russ Feingold ruled out a pardon for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, in an interview this week with the Wisconsin State Journal. According to Libertarian Party Senate candidate Phil Anderson, this puts him alongside President Barack Obama, who has failed to meet earlier promises of transparency and respect for the privacy of American citizens.
“I would sponsor a resolution in the Senate in my first days, urging the next President to pardon Edward Snowden,” said Anderson. “Pardoning Snowden would send a powerful signal that America was turning away from its past embrace of a pervasive, invasive security state.”
“Without Snowden’s courageous exposure of the NSA’s invasion of American’s personal emails and phone conversations, it’s certain that the program would have continued into the present,” said Anderson. “Edward Snowden is not a traitor, Edward Snowden is a whistleblower and a hero.”
Anderson points out that many respectable voices have urged at least the consideration of a pardon for Snowden, including former President Jimmy Carter.
